Maynard Second Model Percussion Saddle Ring Carbine, made by Mass Arms Co., #12081, .50 cal., 20'' barrel, blue and case hardened finish, straight grip hardwood stock, blade front sight, and folding two-leaf rear sight. Buttstock is marked with two inspector cartouches ,''AJN'' (Augustus J. Noble) and ''AM'' (Augustus M. Smith) on the left wrist area. Additionally, the left barrel flat at the breech is marked ''AJN''. Mfg'd circa 1863-1865. Carbine is in overall fine condition, displaying approx. 85% blued finish to the barrel assembly and buttplate with scattered pinprick blemishes, scratches, and patina. Receiver with a mottled dark/light gray appearance. Factory markings are clear. Wood with scattered moderate dents and scratches; fitting proud at the upper and lower tang. Action is crisp and functions smoothly. Bore is very good with defined rifling. Est.: $1,200-$1,800. (Antique)
